Keeping in mind the MCD elections next year, Delhi government is keen to regularise all the unauthorised colonies of Delhi.

In the second meeting of the recently constituted GoM under the Chairmanship of Urban Development Minister, Rajkumar Chauhan, several issues of the unauthorised colonies were discussed at length.

According to reliable sources the ministers appeared to be in favor of regularising all colonies on ridge and forest land. They are also of the view that 110 colonies, of which the built up area was not even 10 per cent in 2002, and 200 colonies, of which the built up area was less than 50 per cent in 2007, should be regularised as they now have almost 100 per cent built up area.

The GoM also discussed the issue of those 162 colonies where there are multiple Resident Welfare Associations and was of the view that this issue needs not be taken seriously as it would be amicably settled among the RWAs.

There are total 1639 unauthorised colonies in Delhi and out these 1218 colonies were given provisional regularisation certificates by Delhi government before the last Assembly elections. The GoM is in favor of regularising these colonies straightway. The next meeting of the GoM will take place on Thursday to discuss ownership and sale-purchase issue.
