Gays come out of the closet

 

 

On March 14, 2006, an extraordinary interview was published in a local daily of Gujarat. It shocked each and every person living in the tiny erstwhile kingdom of Rajpipla , especially the former royalty. In that interview, Prince of Rajpipla, Manvendra Singh Gohil revealed that he is a homosexual. The prince said that he had revealed this to his former wife, Yuvrani Chandrika Kumari from Jhabua, Madhya Pradesh, within the first year of their marriage. That marriage never worked and they got divorced in 1992. Barring that one particular incident, however, Manvendra had no regrets, he said. I think Manav coming out as gay is a great moment. His confession has changed the picture of what homosexuality means, and that is important. It has helped in changing our society’s attitude over homosexuality. (2006)
