This may not be very pleasant news for those who are trying to quit smoking by reducing the number of cigarettes smoked per day. According to researchers at the University of Minnesota, smokers who smoke less, ‘make up’ for the low intake of nicotine by deep inhalation of the smoke and hold their breath in their lungs for a longer duration. They end up absorbing a lot more toxic substances in their blood stream – and eventually the brain – than their counterparts who are mild or heavy smokers! The next time you want to impress your girlfriend by smoking just two-three cigarettes a day, make sure she doesn’t come across this research!
