In what may further destabilize the already shaky Turkish government, the administration has dismissed 350 police personnel in Ankara in the aftermath of a corruption scandal that has threatened to jolt the very basis of the ruling AK Party and its boss Recep Erdogan. The decision to fire the police officers, including some of the department heads, was taken abruptly. This is indicative of the fact that Erdogan is not ready to be cornered as of yet and is raising the stakes for all the parties involved. It has also intensified his conflict with the exiled Turkish preacher Fatehullah Gulen and his Hizmet movement, which is understood to have its people in every department, be it executive, judiciary or media. It was because of the support of Hizmet movement that AKP returned to power on three occasions.
