Ensuring justice

 

 

Prasoon Majumdar's article (TSI, May 24-31) has rightly pointed out that the failure of the political class is the root cause for all social evils prevalent in society. Most officials are corrupt. Due to this malady, development programmes like NREGA have got a severe beating. Adding to this, are the Khap panchayats, who take law into their hands and order killings in the name of ensuring moral dignity and rendering social justice. It is horrifying to note that even educated and elected representatives support them, though the practices are unconstitutional. To bring an end to the functioning of the so-called self-styled keepers of law, deterrent punishment is the only way out.
