Rahul Dev’s Rear Window column made a serious reading. The writer rightly says that after 25 years, Hindi will become the language of the poor. But one should move along with the time otherwise, we will lag behind. There is no doubt that English is universally accepted as an international language, as most of the needed information in the field of science and technology, art and literature are available in English. Countries like China, Japan and Russia have started giving importance to English and are making rapid headway in science and technology. These countries are aware of the realities of the time and understand that English is mandatory to achieve progress. Instead of wasting much time, energy and money on ill-conceived ideas like endorsing Hindi, the country needs an approach where the emphasis is on quality.
