Commenting on the rising problem of naxalites and naxals in India, Mani Shankar Aiyar, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha said that in order to eradicate the naxalism problem deprooted in India, the tribals should be empowered.
Speaking here at an event on the occasion of Vijay Diwas, he said that strengthening the tribals will help in the fight against naxalist movement.

Trying to assess the potential reasons behind the growth of naxalism in India he said, “Years ago the tribal people withdrew into the forest to keep themselves away from the so called civilizing influences, they kept to their own practices and remained at an extraordinarily low level of economic livelihood."

This resulted in their frustration, anger and fury grew among the most quiescent tribal people of India as they suffered from dissatisfaction at individual level, community level, state Level and experienced a sense of total dis-empowerment. Quoting the speech of Prime Minister, Shri Mani Shankar Aiyar described the naxal problem as the “single most important internal security problem” that India has ever faced
