The hard hitting editorial on BCCI is like water on a duck’s back. The board functions more like a private fiefdom, with no accountability – functional or economical. The top posts are held by so-called big shots like industrialists, politicians and power brokers, with no cricket credentials. The board has no vision for the game. Its main aim seems to be raking in more and more moolah by grabbing TV rights, ads and so on. Jagmohan Dalmiya, the erstwhile president, took the board to unprecedented heights, filling the coffers of the board as well as his own. The World Cup 2007 fiasco and the huge public outcry
against the board has forced the board to wake up from its Rip Van Winkle like slumber. Of the numerous Vice-Presidents, there is none who is a former cricketer. There should be at least two; one for the technical aspect of the game and the other to act as liaison officer for the players. The functioning of the board leaves much to be desired. What it does with the huge funds, no one knows. It is well worth bringing its financial dealings under the RTI scanner.
