Dream Theme If you want an exploration of the labyrinth that is the human mind, there isn’t a more capable hand to do that in the cinematic form than Christopher Nolan. With “Inception” he gets to weave a layered plot (something he did masterfully in “Memento” and “The Prestige”) and draws the viewer in for a sensational experience. At its heart, “Inception” is a movie in the ‘team-put-together-to-pull-off-a-job’ mould but the film’s triumph is as much in its story telling as in its execution. Dom Cobb (Leonardo DiCaprio) is an ‘extractor’, a mind spy who invades people’s dreams to steal their secrets. He is given one last job by Saito (Ken Watanabe) to do something quite the opposite – to plant an idea in the mind of a dead industrialist’s son Robert Fischer (Cillian Murphy). Dom gets his crack team together – trusted aides Arthur (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) and Eames (Tom Hardy) and a new recruit Ariadne (Ellen Page).

Creating the world people dream of, gives cinematographer Wally Pfister ample opportunity to lay out a wide canvas and he obliges, taking your breath away. Hans Zimmer’s score will keep your mind on the edge and the layered script will invade your consciousness like a tsunami. Nolan’s greatest achievement is being able to deliver a first rate thriller while keeping the cerebral quotient extremely high. Enjoy the ride of a lifetime, and I bet you’ll never think of dreams the same way ever again!
