Despite the fact that people from all caste and communities have a sizable presence in Delhi, visibly two communities, Vaish and Punjabi, had been dominating the political scene. With the induction of Lahore born Ramakant Goswami in the Delhi Cabinet, the Punjabi dominance seems to have reached its peak and the Vaish community appears to be a mere symbolic.

In the Delhi’s cabinet there are five Punjabi ministers, including Sheila Dikshit. AK Walia and Prof. Kiran Walia, Arvinder Singh Lovely and the new Industry Minister Ramakant Goswami are all Punjabis.

If you look at the Opposition in Delhi Assembly, Vijay Kumar Malhotra too is a Punjabi. The LG of Delhi is a Punjabi and two union ministers of the three representing Delhi in the Union Cabinet are also Punjabis.  The Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal and Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs Ajay Maken both are Punjabis.
