Delhi govt doubles scholarship amount

In a move that aims to benefit students from SC/ST/OBC and minorities, the Delhi government on Monday decided to double the amount of scholarship availed by these students.

The government, in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Monday, has decided  to double the amount of scholarship to SC/ST/OBC/Minorities students in classes XI and XII.

Briefing the media after the cabinet meeting, Dikshit stated that her government is fully committed to  uplift poor families including weaker sections.

"The government has been concentrating on imparting education to such weaker sections of the society in order to empower them with tool of purposeful education and training," said Dikshit.

Similarly, in order to provide more help to the widows at the time of marriage of their daughters, the cabinet has also taken a decision to enhance the existing financial assistance amount.

Hence financial assistance for marriage of a widow’s daughter has been increased from Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 30,000.

The present widows' pension of Rs. 1,000 per month has been increased to Rs 1,500 per month.  This will also be applicable to monthly pension of all abandoned SC/ST/Minorities women.

The new hike will be applicable on issue of a notification. The government would also bring the non judicial stamp papers of Rs. 500 denomination and below under the ambit of e-stamp mode.
