While it was expected that Katrina Kaif shall bag the opportunity to play the lead role in the New Rajinikant film ‘Kochadaiyaan’, Deepika Padukone has pipped her for the role.

Deepika was supposed to work against Rajinikant in the period film Rana in 2011. Even the shooting had started in AVM studios in Chennai with much fanfare. But unfortunately during the first day of the shoot itself, the southern Super star developed bronchitis and renal ailments and was hospitalized for many months. Rana eventually got shelved.

However, Deepika had missed the opportunity to act against Rajini in Rana but she gets lucky for the second time, with being signed for ‘Kochadaiyaan’, another period flick in which Rajini is playing the lead role. This film is directed by Soundarya Ashwin, Rajinikant's daughter herself. The music is being done by A.R Rahman, the camera work is done by Rajiv Menon while the whole project is supervised by senior film director K S Ravikumar.

Kochadayan is said to be the first 3D Indian film to be shot in performance capturing motion technology. The film story is about a Nayaka dynasty king who ruled in the southern part of Tamilnadu, sources from the film industry said. The first advertisement for ‘Kochadaiyaan’ shows Rajinikant with six packs standing on a single leg performing a martial act pose.

Tamil actress Sneha has been signed to act for the heroine's sister role. Apart from her, Srathkumar, Aadhi, Nasser are acting in main roles. The shoot is set to start in London on march 15 this year.

With this film, Soundarya, the younger daughter of Rajinikant becomes a director. Aishwarya, the elder daughter of the superstar is already directing a film '3', in which the famous Kolaveri song has been composed.
