Candidates who have been re elected to the Delhi Assembly saw a growth of over 300 percent in their assets, according to an analysis by the Association for Democratic Reforms. In 2008, the average assets of these 22 MLAs were Rs 3.24 crores, while in 2013 these MLAs declared assets averaging Rs 14.22 crores. Sat Prakash Rana of BJP has reported the highest increase with Rs 105.51 crores in assets compared to the Rs 6.38 crores he had in 2008. Others who had a ‘profitable’ run include Devender Yadav of INC (271% increase) and Dharm Dev Solanki of BJP whose riches grew from Rs 9.42 crores in 2008 to Rs 27.43 crores this year. Of the 15 re-elected MLAs who have declared criminal cases against them, 10 had cases against them in 2008 as well. Who says politics does not pay?
