Crackdown against fake drugs in Odisha

Administration on Friday suddenly woke up and conducted a series of raids on medicine shops and godowns to seize spurious drugs and medicine containing alcohol from the westernpart of the state.
On the other hand, various importantmedicine containing alcohol -contained are surprisingly off from the market as medicine vendors do not want toget involved in any controversy by keeping such medicines.
“We have conducted serious raids in various parts of the western Odisha to seize medicines that were banned by the government after the hooch tragedy took place in Cuttack few days ago. But surprisingly we did not find any medicine having alcoholic contained as the medicine vendors seemed to have cleared up such medicines”, additional SP (Sambalpur) Dilip Kumar Deo said on Friday.
According to him a special squad has been formed comprising officers of excise, police and drugs department to conduct the raids. The teams have already raided more than 50 medicines shops in the Sambalpur and Burla towns to discourage the selling of such medicine that are banned by the government.
Sources said, the government has banned the three brands of medicines Epee cam, Cinnamon and orange puncture BP after the hooch tragedy occurred in Cuttack which took lives of 33 persons. The government took the decision after it was revealed that the deceased had consumed poisonous drugs available in the market which have alcoholic contains.
“We do not want to involved in any controversy by selling such drugs any more”, a medicine vendor said. According to him, there are manycough medicines which are used by the patients on the advice of the doctors. But some times they take some medicines without any prescription by doctors leading to serve problems.
