With reference to your special report 'Graveyard Responsibility' (TSI March 3, 2008), the wide prevalence and pervasiveness of violence towards working women is disturbing; the damage it is doing to their health, psyche and perception of self is unquantifiable. India is shining, IT is booming, but does it mean anything if our women have to think twice before opting for night shifts? It is the moral and social responsibility of the corporates to create an ambience favourable for work and to respect and take care of the dignity of women working for them. In a sector (IT enabled services) where the male-female work ratio stands at 1:1, it is quite unfortunate that we required the Supreme Court to 'enlighen' our corporates on their basic social responsibilities.
