The poll results from the five states has left the Congress perplexed, with the results of UP Assembly elections teasing Congress the most.

Such was the impact of the UP poll debacle on Congress that its senior most leaders- UPCC chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi and General Secretary Digvijay Singh-offered to resign taking moral responsibility of the loss.

According to sources, Dijvijay Singh met party president Sonia Gandhi later today and offered to quit.

However, the party high command has refused to accept their resignations and asked them to put their stand in the upcoming meeting scheduled to discuss the poll drubbing.

Congress also fears that if the party accepts the resignations of Digvijay and Rita Bahuguna, then there could be a growing clamour in the party for the removal of Union Ministers Sri Prakash Jaiswal, Salman Khurshid and Beni Prasad Verma.

Talking to TSI, senior Congress leader and in-charge of the working committee, Oscar Fernandes said that party will discuss the assembly results for which a meeting would be called very soon.

Meanwhile, party's General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has asked the party workers of UP to give their suggestions in Chintan Baithak (deliberations) on March 20 so that deficiencies could be rectified.

Notably, Rahul has held weak organizational structure responsible for the party's defeat.
