'Cong suffering from Emergency mindset'

BJP on Tuesday accused Congress of suffering from a "Emergency mindset" and alleged its "unwillingness" to fight corruption was visible in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's "silence and inaction" against Union Minister Dayanidhi Maran in row over 2G scam.

"Government's unwillingness to act tough against corruption is on display in case of Maran. He should have been sacked by now. Why is the PM silent on the issue? Or is he waiting for Supreme Court's strictures once again?" BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.

He maintained it is well-known that the government acted against Commonwealth Games accused Suresh Kalmadi, DMK MP Kanimozhi and former Telecom Minister A Raja only because the Supreme Court is monitoring the investigations into 2G scam and the CWG case.

"Government has done nothing in the case. The case of ex-SEBI officials being targeted by the Income Tax Deparment also proves that government is interested in shielding the corrupt and harass anybody who takes action against the corrupt," Javadekar said.

He alleged the government was suffering from an "Emergency mindset" and "arrogance of power". Javadekar alleged this was seen also in the manner in which the government used "coercive" methods against peaceful protestors and in using "foul language" against RSS, BJP, Anna Hazare and Ramdev.

Attacking Congress for calling Hazare and his team of civil society activists as "tyranny of the unelected", BJP said the ruling party "does not understand basic political idioms"
