It was a close contest in Uttarakhand with the latest trends showing that the Congress was leading in 31 of the 70 seats and the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead in 25 seats.
Initial trends had suggested a close call between the two parties with the BJP overtaking the Congress midway.
The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) was third with seven seats followed by the Samajwadi Party (SP) with one.
