Two major ports have been proposed recently on east and west coasts of the country as part of the Maritime Agenda 2010-20, Union Minister for Shipping G K Vasan said on Tuesday.
Andhra Pradesh has discussed with the Shipping Ministry for one of these ports.
"The Andhra Pradesh Government has requested to sanction one of the major ports (on the east coast) to the state. The Shipping Secretary has asked for appropriate locations and also asked the state to submit a proposal," Vasan said after attending the 13th Maritime States Development Council Meeting.
Two sites have been proposed by AP.
Technical teams will be sent by the Ministry of Shipping to evaluate the sites and as and when the technical report will be submitted, the matter will be proceeded further.
