Rajasthan government on Thursday ordered CBI probe into the controversial Bhanwari Devi missing case. Bhanwari Devi (36) who was posted as Auxiliary Nurse Midwife at a sub-center in Jaliwada village, around 120 km from Jodhpur district, went missing on September 1.
Her husband Amarchand has alleged that she was abducted at the behest of Water Resources Minister Mahipal Maderna and his associates.
Rajasthan Home Minister Shanti Dhariwal, after a high-level meeting to review security arrangements in the wake of Bharatpur violence, told reporters last night at Jaipur that the Bhanwari missing case will be handed over to CBI.
"I spoke to Maderana regarding the matter. He refuted the charges and said that he was clean and ready to face any investigation," Dhariwal had said, adding, "In the meeting, it was decided to refer the case to CBI."
Police have not ruled out her meeting with any untoward incident. Bhanwari last registered her presence at the sub-center on August 24 and was absent after that. Locals say that she led a lavish lifestyle and had political connections.
Her name had sprung up sometime back after a CD which allegedly showed her in compromising position with the minister and an MLA was circulated.
The Jodhpur police has already announced a cash reward of Rs 4,000 for any information regarding Bhanwari. The police arrested a contractor Sohana Lal Vishnoi soon after she went missing.
The woman had sold her car to Vishnoi and was on her way to collect payment from him in Bilada on September 1 when she disappeared. A few persons were also rounded up from Sikar district who told police that the woman was murdered by a gang in Uttar Pradesh.
Bhanwari, a mother of two girls and one son, has also worked in a few local music video albums and was actively involved with Congress party.
The party sources in Jodhpur indicated that she came into contact with some local leaders some 8-10 years ago who then introduced her to Maderana. However, the minister remained unavailable for comments.
