Pressed hard to defend its acceptance of tainted Babu Singh Kushwaha, former minister in the Mayawati-led state government; BJP’s state leadership has accused the CBI of acting in a partisan manner.

The party’s state president Surya Pratap Shahi has dubbed the CBI as Congress Bureau of Investigation and alleged that it is working under pressure from the central government. This defence comes a day after the investigating agency raided Kushwaha’s residence in connection with investigations into the multi crore NRHM scam and amidst growing criticism that the party’s anti corruption campaign is nothing but a charade.

In Lucknow, Shahi said on Thursday, “The agency is working with a pre-meditated motive. The Congress is hand in glove with the BSP, and the SP is an unseen partner. The rushed manner in which the raids were conducted at Kushwaha’s residence point to a sinister deal”.

Shahi held that while undue haste has been shown in conducting the raids in connection with the NRHM scam, the disproportionate assets case against Mayawati and Mulayam Singh Yadav and the Taj Corridor case against the former have been left untouched.

He questioned the government’s silence regarding allegations of wrong doing by Delhi chief minister SHiela Dixit in the CWG scam and Chidamabaram’s role in the 2G scam.

He further linked the CBI’s actions to the “anti backward” mind-set of the parties in question. “Whenever a backward leader like Kushwaha rises, these parties do their best to pull him down. This is done to crush the voice of the backwards”, he alleged.
