The Guatemalans sure seem to know how to chase away the Devil. At La Quema del Diablo (the burning of the Devil), the country folk clear up all the garbage and pile it up on the streets. The heaps of waste are then set on fire with the belief that it would purge their homes and towns of evil. This event takes place on the eve of the Fiesta de La Virgen de Immaculada Concepcion (Feast Day of the Virgin of the Immaculate Conception).
