Budget: an election lollipop

 

 

With reference to Arindam’s article “A brain dead budget” (TSI, Feb 23-March1), the vote-on-account budget is an anti-climax of the UPA government's five-year-rule. As acting Finance Minister, Pranab Mukherjee has converted the UPA’s govt budgetary swan song into such a boring disappointment that it doesn't include a single scheme or tax initiative. In the time of recession, this lack lusture budget doesn't include any new policy. At this time, everyone is looking for infrastructure growth to help and pull the economy out of downward spiral but, the government's measures so far are unlikely to achieve the desired impact. It's unfortunate that while lots of schemes have been started and thousand of crores spent for rural development, the result is not fruitful. I agree with Arindam that in such a crisis if the govt presents a futile budget, we should call for the banning of Union budget. I appreciate Arindam's voice which always stands for the truth.
