Seems scientists are ready to exploit all facets of science for the benefit of mankind, and making artificial bones using synthetic polymers is their latest venture. Using path-breaking research that allows for mechanical force to activate chemical reactions, scientists attached two polymer strands to a molecule – benzocyclobutene (BCB) – then bombarded them with ultrasound, light, heat, chemical catalysts and electricity, which gradually broke their bonds and coerced the molecules to reform! And thus brought us one step closer to synthetic-polymer made artificial bones.
