Child brothers Subhankar (6) and Raju Biswas (4), whose presence of mind helped avert a major rail disaster on Monday, on Wednesday met West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee along with their mother.

Taking time off from her busy schedule at state secretariat, the former Railway minister met the children and mother Rina Biswas, patted the little ones and wished them all success in life.

The children were taken to the chief minister by Utpal Roy, Secretary of a city-based NGO 'Diganto'.

Roy, who brought the children and their mother to the CM's office, later said that the chief minister asked the District Magistrate, Burdwan to make arrangement of good education for them.

Banerjee also forwarded an application by Sudhamoy Biswas, father of the little ones, to the Ministry of Railways for a job, Roy said.

Residents of Nasipur Colony near Ambika Kalna in Burdwan district, the children spotted a crack in the rail tracks between Guptipara and Ambika Kalna stations at about 10 am on Monday last on way to their schools.

The two brothers immediately rushed back to their home to inform about the crack to their parents Rina and Sudhamoy, labourer in a local factory.

Accompanied by the children, the parents went to the spot and frantically waved a red saree as the UP Howrah-Katwa local was approaching and shouted to the motorman.

Ultimately the train stopped just a few metres away from the crack and a major disaster was averted.

Later railway officers and gangmen rushed to the spot and repaired the breach helping to restore the train service at about 11 am.
