Blackmailing leads woman to commit suicide

Unable to cope up with blackmailing by a local youth circulating her morphed nude picture, Jesmina Bibi (28), a mother of two, from Domkal, Murshidabad district committed suicide.

Police on Thursday found the body of the woman hanging from a tree in the area. No suicide note was recovered from nearby the body.

 According to police, the accused, a local youth, Kalu Sheikh, who owns a mobile phone shop, somehow took picture of Jasmina without her knowing about it.  After that the youth morphed her picture and circulated in the village.

The police said the woman got traumatised after she came to know about the incident. The accused reportedly had also proposed to the woman to marry him and was threatened when she spurned the offer.

It is also alleged some other local youths named Milan Mandol, Milton Mandol, Mahammad Sheikh, Billad Seikh and Jarina Bibi helped Kalu Sheikh to commit the crime.

 Talking to media, Ansar  Sheikh, the husband of the deceased, admitted that he too had seen the nude picture of his wife.

“How could I know that this was actually a fake picture?. It was about our social reputation so I met Kalu and literally begged him not to circulate the picture. But he didn’t pay any attention. Then only after the intervention of Gram Panchayat, Kalu promised that he would never spread it again and would delete the photo from his mobile. But on the day of incident he did it again. And that forced my wife to commit suicide,” alleged, Ansar.

 Around 10 years back the victim was married to Ansar  Sheikh, a mason (raj-mistry) by profession.

Terming the incident as shameful, Murshidabad's Superintendent of Police Humayun Kabir said, “We have already started investigating in all the local cyber cafes. Will arrest the culprits very soon.”

Locals profess that the victim was quite beautiful and attractive, but entirely sober in nature.
