Terming the role of CAG as suggestive the Education Minister of Delhi, Arvinder Singh Lovely, on Tuesday came heavily on the Opposition for politicizing the CAG report.

For the first time after the CAG report was tabled in the parliament last Friday, Lovely along with Chief Secretary and other senior officials came before the media to defend the government and the Chief Minister. Addressing the press conference Lovely said, “there is no indictment of Chief Minister in the report and rather at several places the Auditor has praised the role of the government in the report”.

Rejecting the opposition’s demand for Chief Minister’s resignation, lovely said “If government has to go on CAG report then every year in March State and Union governments will go because CAG always suggests some negligence or shortcoming in the functioning of the government”.

Talking to TSI he said “Since Independence there is no CAG report where some faults have not been pointed out and it is the PAC which takes stock of the report’. He said if government will go on CAG report then what is the need of the PAC and what Murli Manohar Joshi will do.

Defending the Chief Minister he said “all decisions were ‘collectively’ taken by the Cabinet and Chief Minister is not solely responsible for any decision”. Apart from cabinet all departments gives their views on any decision, said lovely. He criticized opposition that if they are demanding resignation of Chief Minister for street lighting then why they are quiet on MCD which has also carried out street lighting on MCD road on same rates.

Strongly defending the government lovely said “we will repeat same if we will get the opportunity to serve the country because we have done for the pride of the nation”.

Earlier 24 BJP MLAs were taken into custody when they started March towards Secretariat building to demand the resignation of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit. Leader of the opposition in the Assembly Prof Vijay Kumar Malhotra demanded the CBI enquiry against Chief Minister. Later all MLAs were released.
