Biden salvages Obama, cleans clock on Ryan

This is basically a theater of absurd. Consider this. Joe Biden was considered as a nincompoop both inside and outside of his party. For many, and I have talked quite a few, he was close to being an embarrassment. But guess what, this night he won the day for the Democrats.

What does this tell us? Quite a few things. President Obama’s performance in the Oval Office was far less than remarkable. Otherwise this election would not have appeared as close as it looks. It should have been a cakewalk. That is what conventional wisdom suggests. But it isn’t. And there lies the problem.

On all possible parameters, President Obama’s tenure scores over the days of Bush administration. Economy is showing sign of recovery; joblessness is at its lowest in years and by any argument Obamacare is a fantastic idea to happen. But it has not brought numbers. And that is what worries Democrats.

Historically, in such circumstances, Presidential debates have changed fortunes. Only somebody who has closely followed the presidential debates knows how it has sunk some overconfident brats.

Back in 60s in one of the first televised debates the then Veep Richard Nixon was roasted by Senator John F Kennedy because Nixon was seen sweating. Similarly, Father Bush’s one movement, where he looked at his watch and appeared bored, sunk him against energetic Bill Clinton.

It should also be kept in mind that more often than not it isn’t facts that matter but the demeanor. And when it boils down to this, the Republicans always have an advantage. A typical Republican voter is the one that has little idea outside of his ranch. Therefore, Republican candidates know that whatever they say, their core voter will never go back home and take the pain to open the internet and check. And that is precisely why they can say anything in the debate and can get away with it. That’s what happened in Obama vs Romney debate. Romney’s arguments were full of inconsistencies. Some even bordered on white lies. But it did not matter after all. He was seen as aggressive whereas Obama was too defensive for comfort. It indeed helped Romney tweak the ratings.

Obama is considered arrogant. He sounds like one indeed to untrained ears. That is why his campaign team apparently asked him to slow down a bit and this strategy turned disastrous. In the next debate, be rest assured, Obama will be back in his element.

Considering this, Joe Biden's performance has interjected fresh confidence in the Democrat campaign machine. Paul Ryan represents the lowest denominator of Republicans. Now that is quite something to say. It is evident that he is mostly clueless on matters of polity and it was apparent in the debate.

Paul Ryan looked way out of his depth and contradicted himself several times on key issues of tax-cut and Obamacare. Now it is not entirely his fault. Republican Party has no alternative concrete economic policy in offing. Some say, since they know they will not win, why bother. And now that they have sniffed a distant victory they are panicking on what to offer. Ryan became the first victim of this panic during the debate.

Of course Republicans are using some lone polls to claim that Ryan won, but like it was during the Presidential debate, a majority of pollsters believe that Biden cleaned the clock.
