Referring to Arindam Chaudhuri's editorial, “The citizens of the..." (TSI, Sept 6-12). The citizens of the subcontinent are left betrayed, not just because of the shameless conduct of their sporting heroes, but also due to the lack of the stringent rules of the game. A week after a British tabloid exposed the alleged collusion of some Pakistani cricketers with a London-based bookie in spot-fixing, there's more proof in the public domain regarding betting, which has made the cricket lovers worried. Clearly, the rot has spread far and wide. Not only Pakistan but other cricket boards can't be complacent. But the trouble with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is that it did not even admit to the problem. PCB needs to admit the gravity of the situation and clean up the system. It's going to be a complicated task since some people have accused PCB officials of involvement in betting rackets. A fresh set of board officials and selectors may be able to win back the trust of players and weed out the corruption in cricket entirely.
