If all Mexico reminded you of was mariachi, salsa and the Merengue, visit the city of Oaxaca to be pleasantly surprised with a variety of other customs from performing arts to cuisines. On the Radish Night (La Fiesta de Los Rabanos), find all this and more – from flora ‘n fauna to sceneries to saints – in the form of local speciality – the radishes! And it’s not just the display of sculptures, but music, dance and a flurry of beautiful and sky-lightening fireworks that commemorate the event! The most interesting part, however, is throwing the plate over your shoulders, from which you’ve eaten buñuelos (deep-fried doughnuts drenched in syrup), with the number of shattered pieces hinting at your future! Looking forward to some (ra)dishy future ahead? (23 December)
