A candidate for the post of Block Development Committe member in the ongoing Panchyat polls in Uttar Pradesh was allegedly killed due to suspected election rivalry, police said here today.
The body of Devraj Yadav (25) was found this morning in Dakraura village, they said.
According to the family, Yadav had received a phone call from someone last night and he was missing since then.
Demanding arrest of the assailants, locals raised protests and blocked traffic on Azamgarh-Gorakhpur highway.
They withdrew the protest later when police officials reached the spot and assured them of action against culprits.
