Attempt to murder charge against SSP

RTI activist and Team Anna Akhil Gogoi has filed an FIR against the Guwahati Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Apurba Jiban Baruah at Basistha police station alleging that the police officer attempted to kill him.

Talking to media, Gogoi said that “After I reached the last gate of Dispur, where three organizations were supposed held a dharna demanding immediate issuance of land pattas, I was grabbed by policemen by the neck in presence of SSP, I was then pulled in a police bus and roughed up.”

On the other hand, the SSP Baruah alleged that Gogoi had attacked the persons in uniform.

Notably, the Assam government had assured the residents of hill areas of the city to issue land pattas but repeated request by the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and two other organizations fell on deaf years and no action was taken in this regard.

Protesting against the government’s apathy, the organizations took permission from the district administration for a protest demonstration.
