Assam Education Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday that government will recruit around 40,800 teachers in February.
The government decision came after Wednesday's Supreme Court verdict vacating the Guwahati High Court’s state ban on teachers' recruitment.
There are a total of 82,000 vacant posts of lower and upper primary teachers in the schools of Assam.
The Guwahati High Court had on March 5, 2010 imposed a ban on further recruitment in this category of teachers.
Challenging HC's order, the state government had moved the apex court of the country.
The apex court bench headed by Justice Deepak Verma and Justice KS Radhakrishnan vacated the Guwahati High Court order on a petition by the Assam government contending that the ban was affecting education environment of Assam.
It can be mentioned here that Assam Government conducted the teachers’ eligibility test (TET) last months for the first time in which more than 52,000 candidates had cleared the examination.
Talking to TSI, Dr Sarma said “A total of 28,000 teachers will be recruited on contractual basis and other 12,800 will be recruited on regular basis.”
He, however, said that salary of both the category will be the same. He informed that around 90,000 teachers posts are lying vacant in Assam and to give relief the unemployed educated youths 40,800 new recruitment of teachers will be done in February itself.
