Assam tea garden | Barak Valley Strike | 700 employee strike in Assam |
An indefinite strike has been called by 700 employees of Assam's tea graden workers. Three tea estates have been covered in the same and are situated in Assam's Barak Valley.
They are demanding the payment of gratuity and regularisation of contractual workers.
The workers of the three gardens - Koya, Ramchandi and Moonachoda - alleged that they have been deprived of gratuity for past ten years.
"Our gratuity has not been paid for long. Not only that we have no medical facilities and hundreds of contractual workers in the three estates have not been regularised despite working for years," Koya Tea Estate Workers Union President Rajkumar Koiri said.
The workers are also pressing for equal wage for contractual employees on in line with regular ones and some other demands
