Are Muslims for sale?

As the Assembly elections are due in some states, particularly the state of Uttar Pradesh, the Muslims are in great demand. Every political party, except BJP, is ready to walk extra mile to get Muslim votes. BJP doesn’t take this issue seriously. Their approach is not to woo Muslims to vote for them but they want to ensure that Muslims does not vote en-block for a single party. They want the division of Muslim votes and would be happy if good number of Muslim votes goes to Mulayam.

On the other hand, Congress is now aggressively talking about exemption of Madrasas from RTE, Communal Violence Bill and reservation for Muslims. Mulayam and Mayawati are also toeing similar line and even going a step ahead to show that they are the genuine well-wishers of the Muslim community.

Whether it is election season or not, one cannot simply expect anything different from the political parties. They are politicians and they would indulge in this kind of politics only. But if the so called Avtars of change, Anna and his cohorts, also practices the same kind of politics then how can a common man differentiate between politicians and the so called champions of anti corruption crusade. If they also behave like politicians then people will be compelled to believe what Diggy Raja says.

These arrogant Avtars have repeatedly declared that they will never take part in electoral politics and their movement is apolitical. It would be foolish to trust them after going through the chronology of events since the movement for Janlokpal started. During the first dharna at Jantar Mantar there was a huge backdrop with the picture of Bharat Mata. As the movement moved towards Ramlila Maidan the picture of Bharat Mata was no more needed, Avtars even started distancing themselves from Vande Matram. To end the fast, Dalit and Muslim children were brought and from then onwards the Avtars took pain to ensure that a Muslim with beard, cap and sherwani remains with Anna and he should be seated or rather placed in such a way that no camera frame misses him.

Why all this? If your cause and means for the cause are noble and pious then why this political behavior of which we are fed up? Are you not playing politics? If the answer is no then it appears that the Avtars are hypocrite. The common Indian, particularly a Muslim, has already had too much of all this. It appears that for everyone, from political parties to team Anna, Muslims are mere sale-able commodity.
