Who is the real Kangana? Is Kangana the uber cool, chic and stylish girl that we see in photoshoots and films, or is it the down-to-earth girl from a small town that we see in the interviews?

If you consider my life, I don't think the two are at odds. I came to Mumbai and started in films when I was 17. In many ways I've grown-up in the industry. I would look the way my directors or producers would ask me to, according to my role. Photoshoots are part of an actor’s job.

When you were growing up, you had no plans of becoming a model and you had in fact pursued your studies in BA. When and how did the thought of joining films come to your mind? How supportive were your parents about you pursuing a career in the film industry?

After few months of my college, I moved to Delhi. I joined a theatre group and started acting in several plays, which led me to modelling and then to films. Initially, my parents were not very supportive of me working in this industry, but now they are.

Tell us about your days in school. Were you interested in sports, dramatics or dancing?

I was not at all interested in sports. I was more into creative things.

You are young, vivacious and a brilliant star surrounded by so many controversies. Does that bother you?

Unfortunately, controversies are a part of the life of a celebrity. No, it doesn't bother me, and it shouldn’t as it’s an element of the film industry.

How was your experience working with stars like Ajay Devgn and Sanjay Dutt again for the movie Rascals? What were your expectations out of the movie?

The movie did not work and I'm sad about it. It was a film made with the best of intentions. Working with Ajay and Sanjay ji is always fun and exciting.

Is it still important for you to see how well your film does commercially?

Yes, it does matter how my film does. Only then you can work, and if your film does not do well, then you will be jobless. It's as simple as that.
In Tanu weds Manu you played a different role altogether. Was it tough to play a hyper, over-the-top character? How close is the character Tanu to the real you?

The character that I’ve played in Tanu Weds Manu is very much like me, and the character is very close to me. I’m not sure if I am someone who is so bold in her approach. It was a character I most enjoyed playing.

What would your advice be to those girls who aspire to become like you?

Joining the film line is like any other job. You have to prepare yourself accordingly. You need to make your portfolio, do rounds of studios for auditions, and hope to get a break and that really works out.

If you have the chance of rebirth, who would you like to become in your next life?

I'm happy and satisfied with this life. So, I would like to become myself in the next life as well.
