All yucked up

 

 

‘Kambakkht Ishq” is a loser. With a capital L. For good measure, it also showcases ludicrous logic, lewd situations and is intolerably loud. For starters, the jokes are all borrowed and based on the cliched ‘battle of the sexes’ routine, something that will drive you insane. If that doesn’t, Akshay Kumar and Kareena Kapoor’s ‘acting’ surely will. Both deliver their lines with comic timing so out of whack that you begin to question if you are watching the same actors who otherwise have done notable and well done comic roles not too long ago. The jokes and story (what story? Stuntman Akshay meets part-time model and full-time medic trainee Kareena and sparks fly – that’s about that!) seem to have been composed by hormone crazed teenagers on their cell phones.

What about the others? Amrita Arora is too busy flaunting her physique, and Aftab Shivdasani too busy believing he’s even featuring in a movie (never mind the fact that his role is one even a B grade actor wouldn’t have touched with a 200 feet barge pole) leaving no saving grace that tempers the hideously histrionic Akshay-Kareena spat that is the centre piece of the plot (it pains me to classify this cliche ridden, hole filled caper as a plot). As if the whole yuck all concoction wasn’t enough, there’s Sylvester Stallone thrown in (wonder how the Hollywood legend feels at being used as a gimmick) and the ear piercing sound track will be the last straw to get you hunting for the nearest psychiatric centre. If this passes off as the standard ‘leave your brains at home entertainment’ spiel, then “Singh Is Kinng” deserves an Oscar. Steer clear and save yourself the humiliation of a brazen insult to your aesthetic sensibilities and your intelligence.
