OVERDONE? OVER-BLOWN?

AIDS...

While the world worries itself sick about with this new-fangled horror called AIDS, Purushotaman Mulloli, a Human Rights Activist of the Joint Action Council of Kannur (JACKINDIA) would like you to believe that it’s all nothing but an insidious marketing gimmick.

AIDS... The transnational companies are a smart lot, for they sell something which will kill you, claiming and with you believing that it’s for your own good! AIDS is not the unstoppable juggernaut that people have made of it. The likes of Shilpa Shetty and Richard Gere, and others of their ilk, besides the NGOs which campaign for awareness about AIDS, are unaware that they are unwitting accomplices to a game of global fear psychosis. Some NGOs are responsible for generating hype and wreak havoc. Due to this, the new generation revels in spreading and experiencing fear.

I’ll prove the nexus between the marketers of AIDS and organizations like World Bank (WB), UNAIDS and National Aids Control Organization (NACO). To date, WB has disbursed soft loans to India in 3 phases. In the 1st phase, Rs. 480 Cr, 2nd Rs. 1400 Cr and 3rd will be Rs. 13,000 Cr, 80% of the last inflow will go toward ART (Antiretroviral Therapy). Basically, the medicines that AIDS patients receive are not free. To top it, the marketers use the hype generated to promote their products like condoms, testing kits etc. Following the announcement of depressing AIDS statistics for India, I wrote to UNAIDS questioning how had they arrived at such an astounding figure, since according to answers provided by the Ministry of Health to the Indian Parliament, the cumulative (1986 to 2006) recorded deaths due to AIDS in India are under 4000! UNAIDS replied that, ‘the data is not research based, but are computer generated projections.’

God knows why people go through the torture of the highly toxic ART, when no one has claimed prevention or cure for AIDS. On the contrary, it induces side effects like nausea, vomiting, liver failure, etc. For the last 12 years, they’ve been unable to satisfy me regarding my queries about scientific evidence of the isolation of the HIV virus, as in cases of TB, cholera etc, where one can say ‘there’s the bacterium that causes the suffering’. I approached the Supreme Court but it kept away quoting the involvement of the UN as a disclaimer. We can’t even approach the government to intervene as they prescribe the tools and the process. The exposure to explicit sexual content through internet, media etc not being adequate, modules on sex education in schools will serve little purpose beyond encouraging youngsters toward free sex and offer free advertisement space for condoms. Six states have sensibly refused sex education in schools – Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Chattisgarh.

I’m citing a pertinent example of empty AIDS hype. Ranbir Singh, a truck driver from Chochi village – known as ‘the AIDS Village’ of Haryana – was suffering from TB & fever. He was refused treatment and died the next day in the hospital. It was declared that he and his family were afflicted with AIDS, but his wife is yet to see reports which claim so. She has remarried and is leading a healthy life and so is one of her daughters from Ranbir, who is getting married soon. Can’t someone see through the conspiracy?”
