The recent decision by the DMK treasurer and former deputy chief minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin to fix an age limit for party posts in the youth wing of DMK, has raised speculations inside and outside the party that he is trying to appoint his son Udayanidhi Stalin as the state youth wing secretary.

MK Stalin, who is 59 now, had became DMK youth wing secretary in 1980. Since then he is not ready to relinquish the post even after he was given a more powerful post of party treasurer.

The party had recently changed the rules for the post of youth wing secretary to forty years.

Several party leaders feel that it is high time for Satlin to give up the post of youth wing secretary in favour of more younger blood.

According to party insiders, fixing the age limit for party's youth wing is an attempt by Stalin to scuttle the chances of Kanimozhi, Rajyasabha MP and daughter of Karunanidhi, as youth wing secretary.

Currently, Udayanidhi Stalin is pursuing his interest in producing Tamil films. He is even acting as a hero in a film.

According to reports, Udayanidhi is also on the radar of authorities on land grab charges.

It is widely perceived that Udayanidhi will replace his father as the youth wing secretary.

''It is widely expected that Udayanidhi will replace MK Stalin. Udayanidhi has worked closely with his father and grandfather to know the party affairs” said a DMK senior party functionary, who did not want to be named.

DMK has scheduled its general body meeting on February 3 and widespread changes are expected in the party hierarchy.
