Actions louder than words

 

 

Prasoon Majumdar's column on hate speeches was informative (TSI, April 12-18). Actions speak louder than words, but words hurt more than actions. Hitler used the power of the spoken word to sway the German masses. But, the public of today is not naive. It instantly sees through the game of any leader who is trying to play with their emotions. The last two general elections have been fought on non-emotive issues like bijli, sadak and paani. Hence, rousing speeches have lost their value. People want proper governance. The voters of Delhi voted Sheila Dikshit back to power even after the BJP tried to sway the public on the issue of terrorism. Modi, known for communal politics, hardly makes any emotional statements these days. As far as Varun's speech goes, it shows his immaturity or may be he is a pawn in a larger game.
