After United Peoples Democratic Solidarity (UPDS) signed a peace agreement with the central government, one of the most trouble-torn areas of the Assam, the hilly Karbi Anglong district, is expected to get a sigh of peace.
The people of the district had been fighting for their right since 1986. As an indigenous tribe of our state, the Karbi people are more backward compared to the other indigenous tribe of the state.
Though the state government had created a separate council to look after the developmental activities after the formation of the district, it is observed only few people are benefitted while the inhabitants of the rural area are living a pathetic life. They are facing problems even with their fundamental needs like food, electricity, pure water, etc.
So, at the time when the people of the Karbi Anglong look fulfilled with the peace process, my mind echoes the same question 'will these simple inhabitants get relief from their pains this time?'
