Subroto Cup, a school level football tournament which promises to nurture young talents of Indian football is ready to scale new heights. Till date you might not have seen much recognisable contribution from this school level tournament but organisers dream to make it a big platform for the budding footballers.
With 53rd tournament, the organisers have taken few new initiatives which may in coming future give wings to school level footballers to fly high. This time the tournament has got considerable corporate support which is a prime need for any tournament to become successful.
The tournament kicks off on 3rd Sep. In a span of two months time 78 teams will be playing 125 matches. FC Dynamo Kiev of Ukraine and Cardinal Heenan College of United Kingdom are two European teams participating in this tournament. The organisers feel the participation of European team will add more professionalism to this tournament and the boys from India will be getting more exposure by playing against them.
The country's oldest school tournament was conceptualised by Indian Air Force. Speaking on the occasion Air Marshal JN Burma said , “So far teams from Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and other South Asian countries have taken part in the Subroto Cup. These teams received tremendous support from football lovers and we felt that it was the right time to bring in teams from Europe.”
From this time All India U-17 Girls event is also being introduced. One girl's team from Afganistan will also be seen in action in the girls category.
With added corporate support the organisers feel they can achieve their goal and give shape to many of their plans in future. On 95 Fm important hits of Subroto cup can be heard. Not only that organisers have planned to give live webcast.
Though most of the matches will be played in Ambedkar Stadium but organisers have promised to arrange at least six matches in Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
Organisers have planned to make Subroto Cup a hit this time but when the national team is struggling with each passing day, it is very tough to generate interest in school level football.
