Seventeen persons were injured in a clash between members of two communities at a village in Eastern Maharashtra, police said.

Eight persons were arrested in connection with the violence at Mahagaon, they said.

The clash was triggered yesterday by a dispute over the site of an existing Budhha vihar near the village. Angry mobs indulged in stone pelting causing injury to 17 persons, they said.

An autorickshaw was also set on fire by the mob, police said.

Senior district police officials are camping in the village, where the situation is under control, they added.
