114 ultras surrender in Manipur

Altogether 114 militants belonging to different outlawed organisations on Wednesday surrendered before the Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh as part of 'home coming ceremony’ to join the mainstream and promote peace.

The militants also surrendered their weapons including AK-47s, HR Rifles, Lathode Guns, Carbines and Pistols and revolvers. The function was organised at IGAR(S) Mantripukhri in Imphal.

Speaking during the occasion, the Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said, “Peace and freedom from crime and terrorism are the catalysts for progress and development.”

He also applauded the critical role of the Assam rifles in encouraging misguided youth to join the mainstream thereby promoting peace in the state.

Militants from major groups including UNLF, PLA, KCP, KYKL, PREPAK, KNLF, URPF, KNLA, UPPK, UNPC and PULF laid down their arms.

The family members of militants who attended the ceremony hoped that the  government would soon provide for the rehabilitation of the surrendered youth.
