In what may be called one of the bloodiest months in Iraq in years, a little less than 1000 Iraqis were killed in violent attacks across Iraq last month. According to data released by Iraq’s Ministry of Health and Ministry of Defense, the figure includes 852 civilians, 53 police personnel and 43 soldiers. The number of those injured in attacks also runs in several hundreds. The most worrying part for the government is that the majority of those dead or injured are civilians and mostly from Shiite sect. As of now, there has not been organised retaliations from the Shiite groups, however things may change in future making it difficult for Maliki government.
