Pour in for the Pooram! Reckoned as the biggest and the most awaited temple festival of Kerala, Thrissur Pooram (carnival) – celebrated in the month of of the Malayalam calendar – attracts the fancy of millions of tourists from the world over. The festival, introduced by Sakthan Thampuran, the Maharaja of Kochi, features vibrant processions of elaborately caparisoned elephants, from the Krishna Temple (Thiruvambady) and the Devi Temple (Paramekkavu) to the Vadakumnathan temple in Thrissur. Set to a pulsating orchestra of many sets of Panchavadyam – combination five percussion and wind instruments – it shall certainly transport one to the realm of the divine, as the surreal sights and sounds build up to a crescendo (27 April)
