The Supreme Court has ruled that exiled Bangladeshi writer Taslima Nasreen shall not be arrested on the basis of an FIR registered against her in Uttar Pradesh under the Information Technology Act over a contentious tweet. The FIR was lodged earlier this month by Hasan Raza Khan Noori Miyan, who objected to Nasreen’s tweets criticising the meeting between AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal and cleric Maulana Taureeque Raza Khan, who had approved of issuing a fatwa against the author in 2007. While restraining the police from taking any action against her, the court has also lumped the petition with other similar ones which seek amendment in often misused, vaguely worded Section 66A of the IT Act which deals with the sending of any information through a communication service.
