Movie lovers flock to Adda short film fest

Hundreds of movie lovers thronged the Gauhati Commerce College auditorium on Friday evening where the eighth Adda short film festival was held.

The curtainraiser of the festival was Indian film 'Six Strands', directed by Mumbai-based filmmaker Chaitanya Tamhane. The short fiction film is based on the partially-true story of a lonely, mysterious woman in the hills of Darjeeling who produces the most elusive and expensive tea in the world.

Apart from eight acclaimed films screened at various film festivals across the globe, 17 short films by Indian filmmakers were also screened in the competition section. The eight invited films were, ‘Six strands’ by Chaitanya Tamhane from Mumbai, ‘Le Detour’ by Issam Echchikh from Algeria’, The man who Thought’ by Mansour Foruzesh from Iran, ‘Date’ by Saptaraj Chakraborty, ‘Printing Mistake’ by M. G. R. govt. Film and Television Institute from Tamilnadu, ‘26th Sense’ by Gaurav Panjvani, 'Doctor Nurse and Patient’ by Angshuman Borkotoky and ‘ Face Pack’ by Gaurav Panjvani. On the other hand, total 17 short films were selected by the juries comprising of renowned film makers Mr. Gautam Bora, Sanjib Hazarika, Nayan Prasad and Bidyut Chakravarty.

The best film for fiction category was ‘Liberation’ by Deepjyoti Kakoti. Best film for Animation category was ‘Values Distorted’ by Rishik Baruah and the best film for documentary was ‘Ball N Beautiful’ by Chida Bora.

Talking to TSI, the founder secretary of ‘Adda’ Amardeep Gogoi said, “This time much more young film makers took part in the competition section than we expected. Most of the selected films by the juries kept high technical quality. We think, it became possible only for the special skill that had kept by the members of the Jury Board. This proves that, ‘Adda’ is growing day by day, and this Festival has a very good future.
