Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and West Bengal's Mamata Banerjee Wednesday skipped the chief ministers' conference on internal security that is likely to chalk out a new strategy to check the growing violence by Maoist guerrillas.

"Madam Jayalalithaa has informed that she will be not attending the chief minister's conference in Delhi today. A statement was issued by her Tuesday itself," AIADMK leader V Maitreyan told a news agency.

Wednesday's meeting, convened by the home ministry and inaugurated by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, will deliberate extensively on the activities of Pakistan-based terrorist groups, infiltration from across the border, communal disturbances and ways of improving intelligence gathering mechanisms.
