Iran claims capture of US drone

Iran downs US drone over Persian GulfIranian naval forces claimed to have captured a US drone ScanEagle over the Persian Gulf, Iranian authorities said Tuesday.

According to Iran's Press TV, Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran has captured a US ScanEagle drone over the Persian Gulf waters upon its intrusion into the Iranian airspace.

The Revolutionary Guards are an elite unit of Iran's military which operate their its naval forces.

"IRGC Navy Commander Rear Admiral Ali Fadavi made the announcement on Tuesday, adding that the Iranian armed forces enjoy full intelligence command over foreign movements in the Persian Gulf region," reported Press TV

According to BBC reports, the ScanEagle drone is a low-cost, long-endurance aircraft built by Insitu, a subsidiary of Boeing.
